Iron back nursing chair - traditional upholster

I loved working on this little nursing chair, but it did take quite some time! It is an iron back, so called because the back and small arms of the chair are made from iron rather than the usual wood. This means you cannot tack anything to it but have to hand sew every layer as you build it up. You will see in one of the photos the iron framework wrapped in hessian, which forms the base to which you stitch, and stitch, and stitch some more.

The seat is easier, as it has a wooden frame allowing the webbing and hessian to be tacked on as usual. In this case, everything needed replacing including all the stuffing and springs.
